Respect

A common goal for most humans is getting married. When you are around your middle 20s people ask you when are you getting married, when are you planning to get married, how is your love life or who is your special someone. In addition to this, it is a part of Filipino culture to get married around that age. However, some people struggle and find this difficult especially because of their sexuality.

Christianity is the religion that has the most Filipino worshippers. Furthermore, they believe that God created only male and female and that is how it really should be. According to the Genesis 1:27, “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” In their belief, a man’s partner should only be a woman. Homosexuality is not completely accepted by all Christians and a lot of them are homophobic. Some Christians don’t like looking at lovers that have the same sex but they should still respect this because it is not their lives and they should not meddle with other people’s lives.

However, some people do not follow this belief. Some people have different sexualities which means that some men want men as partners while some women want women as their partners too. We all know that when it comes to loving a special someone, we fall in love without choosing who you want to fall in love with, it just happens. In addition to this, they have the freedom to choose how they want to live their life and who they want to spend their lives with. They have the right and freedom if they want to marry their special someone even if that someone has the same sex as them.

Thus, there are two sides to the topic of Same Sex Marriage, the people who oppose this and the people who support this. Also, we should be aware of both sides so that we can understand the whole topic. What matters the most is to treat and recognize each another with respect.
